Positive career coaching

Introduction

This course is for psychologists, teachers and anyone else interested in using positive psychology for career coaching.

The course has five sessions held on consecutive Friday afternoons or Saturday mornings to meet these five objectives.

  • An overview of positive career coaching and how it compares with conventional career guidance

  • Essential concepts: Narratives, creative images, wholeheartedness, acceptance, trepidation

  • Central skills: Conversations, re-crafting, goal setting, envisioning, holding

  • The role of the counselor and profound changes in our ethical stance

  • The role of 2.0 (Facebook, etc) and the projection of identity

Resources & materials

  • This course has a password-protected wiki where we post course materials.

  • Course participants are encouraged to edit our material and add their own.

  • The wiki runs on a Creative Commons license. All the participants may use any material placed in the wiki for their own teaching and practice with due accreditation to the authors.

  • We respect conventional copyright and request permission to use copyrighted material. We also link to sources on other sites and on Amazon.

Presenter

Jo Jordan BSc(Psych) MPhil CPsychol

Jo began career coaching as a young psychologist and has worked in this area throughout her career as a university teacher, occupational psychologist and HR consultant. She is currently working on bringing positive psychology into conventional occupational psychology and HR management.

Fees

  • We are charging a fee of $ for all five sessions and use of the website for a calendar year.

  • The fee is payable to reserve a place and is fully refundable if you cancel by the Monday prior to the first session, or otherwise, at our discretion.

  • To provide a stimulating course, we would like to have at least 5 participants. In the event of participant numbers dropping below 5 before the course begins, we will offer you a full refund and the first places on any further course.

  • In the event of unforeseen circumstances disrupting the course, we will contact you as soon as possible and negotiate a suitable time to reconvene. Please ensure we have your home, work and mobile numbers so that we are able to contact you promptly if necessary.

Participants

  • This course is intended for practicing career coaches and may be suitable for post-graduate students who have formally studied career management.
